Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

This is where you will find the class teacher, Miss Antonucci and teaching assistant Mr Priestly, waiting to support the children with the beginning of Upper Key Stage 2, which means that they are nearing the end of their primary school journey!

As part of our Catholic ethos, the children live, love and learn in the Light of Christ by following the Christian values. This creates a nurturing school environment where children can thrive in their learning.

Throughout the year, the children will consolidate their learning from Year 4 and expand their knowledge and understanding to prepare them for Year 6. There are daily recall lessons and timetables tests to help the children remember all they have learnt so far during their primary school journey.

In English, the children dive deep into their imaginations by creating fantastic pieces of writing, on topics such as Beowulf and Shakespeare’s Macbeth, whilst exploring the magnificent grammar that the English language has to offer.

In Maths, the children build on their mathematics skills by exploring fractions, multiplication and division, as well as learning about decimals. They also continue to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills.

In the foundation subjects the children learn about events from the past and try to understand the impact these events have on the current world. The children explore the scientific world and continue to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills about scientific concepts.
