Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

The Class Teacher is Mrs Pettit and the class Teaching Assistant is Mrs Weston. In Year 2, the children continue the exciting and inspiring learning from Year 1.

As part of our Catholic ethos, the children live, love and learn in the Light of Christ by following the Christian values. This creates a nurturing school environment where children can thrive in their learning.

In English the children continue to develop their phonics, writing and fluency skills through Read Write Inc continuing their learning Talk 4 Writing and practising stories using actions. The children will continue to enjoy listening to a range of class stories across the year.

In Maths, we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme and the children learn through investigations and exploration activities to develop their maths fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills.

In History, the children learn about ‘The Great Fire of London’ and use their knowledge to design and make a burning building. The children also learn about the lives of significant individuals from History which include Samuel Pepys, Florence Nightingale Mary Seacole and Katherine Johnson. In Science, the children develop their knowledge, observational and investigative skills to understand the world around them more.
