At our school, we call the pupil-led chaplaincy team our ‘Shining Stars’.
Our Shining Stars are excellent role models for our other pupils as they are skilled at planning Celebrations of the Word and are confident in delivering these. They share their ideas with enthusiasm and have a good liturgical awareness. The older Shining Stars support the younger ones, and they work collaboratively as a team when planning and delivering Celebrations of the Word and other types of liturgies.
In April 2024, we welcomed Mrs Wright into our school. Mrs Wright works as a Lay Chaplain for the Our Lady of Lourdes Trust and visits our school often. Mrs Wright plans our class-led Gospel based Celebrations of the word which are delivered every Monday. Small groups of pupils from all year groups work with Mrs Wright to plan these on a rota basis. Pupils are keen to plan with Mrs Wright and they are confident at choosing liturgically appropriate items for the prayer tables and hymns to sing. They enjoy thinking of creative ways to respond to the scripture and they can compose their own prayers in age appropriate ways.
Mrs Wright also works alongside the Shining Stars to plan and resource our termly retreat days and she overseas our CAFOD Live Simply Award journey.
In addition to our own Chaplaincy Team, we are also privileged to be able to use the resources and support of our Trust Chaplaincy Team. Click here to find out more.
